Smithsonian Expo

Project Overview

The Smithsonian partnered with our team to create an inclusive expo celebrating the ADA’s profound impact on individuals with disabilities. As subject matter experts, we ensured the event exceeded accessibility standards, showcased the achievements enabled by the ADA, and engaged a broad audience, including policymakers and advocates.

Contributions

  • Participant and Speaker Selection: We curated a diverse group of exhibitors highlighting groundbreaking innovations, organizations, and artistic contributions shaped by the ADA. Additionally, we identified inspiring speakers, including advocates, policymakers, and innovators, who emphasized the ADA's significance and ongoing impact.

  • Event Accessibility: Our team conducted a comprehensive venue audit and provided tailored recommendations to maximize inclusivity. Solutions included tactile maps, braille signage, ASL interpretation, live captioning, and assistive technology stations to ensure every attendee could fully engage with the event.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: The expo attracted notable U.S. Senators, government officials, and key advocacy leaders. Their participation underscored the event’s national importance, fostering critical conversations about accessibility and inclusion.

Results

  • High-Level Attendance: The presence of policymakers and leaders amplified the expo’s visibility and reinforced the importance of accessibility.

  • Broad Impact: The event successfully celebrated ADA milestones while spotlighting the ongoing need for equitable access and inclusion.

  • Community Engagement: Attendees praised the event for its thoughtful inclusivity, diverse representation, and seamless accessibility, making it a model for future events.

Conclusion

The Smithsonian ADA Celebration Expo demonstrated how intentional design and collaboration can create impactful, accessible experiences. By amplifying diverse voices and prioritizing accessibility, we helped the Smithsonian deliver a successful event that celebrated progress, inspired advocacy, and strengthened connections between government leaders, organizations, and the disability community.
